West Ferris U19A Team Brings Home Gold
from Guelph Tournament

Guelph - The West Ferris Ringette Under 19 team had another stellar tournament over the weekend in Guelph, going undefeated and winning their third gold medal of the season, in what could be termed the team’s most exciting tournament to date.

The 63s got off to a strong start on Friday with a 3-1 win against a very quick team who had travelled from Nova Scotia to play. Their second game was a re-match with the Guelph Predators, a physical team who has been challenging the 63s for the past couple of years.  Our girls came out ahead this time, squeaking by the Predators 3-2.

The winning continued on Saturday, with a decisive 4-1 win against the Whitby Wild. A late game on Saturday gave the 63s their fourth round robin win with a 7-4 win against the Cambridge Turbos. This left the 63s in second place overall, behind an also undefeated team from Mitchell and onto the semi-finals on Sunday.

Sunday brought an exciting match-up against Northern Ontario rivals and third place Timmins. The game was intense, with the score either tied or with a one point differential. But West Ferris prevailed and a jubilant team celebrated a hard fought 5-4 win, earning a place in the finals against Mitchell.

The Mitchell Stingers came out flying in the final game and West Ferris fell behind 3-0 by the end of the first period. But, with grit and determination, the 63s fought their way back and the score was tied going into the last minute of the game. With two players in the penalty box, two seconds left on the clock and the whole arena on the edge of their seats, West Ferris scored the winning goal and came home with yet another gold medal.

The West Ferris U14A and U19A teams have both earned spots in the Provincial Championships happening in Kitchener during the March Break and are looking forward to representing North Bay there.
